Dombes Parliament
In 1523 King François I took control of La Dombes and set up its parliament in Lyon.
In 1696 Louis-Auguste de Bourbon, Duke of Maine, moved the parliament from Lyon to Trévoux which became Dombes’ capital. The duke had a new court built whose hearing room still stands today.
The hearing room has a ceiling and walls painted in the late 17th century that were restored in the 18th-20th century. The paintings are dedicated to the sovereign prince on the themes of Justice and Peace. They were listed as a Monument Historique in 1920.
